Grandma Pipkin’s Vanilla Ice Cream
1 C Whole Milk
(preferably straight from the cow)
1 Egg (beaten)
1/4 C Sugar
1 T Vanilla
1 T Flour
Aluminum Ice Tray
These are the ingredients Grandmother Pipkin used to make vanilla ice cream. Not sure she had a recipe but probably knew approximately how much to use for each batch. She removed the tray insert and mixed it right in an aluminum ice tray and stirred everything well.
Then she put it in the freezer and we waited.... and waited..... and waited forever.
Note: Every 30-40 minutes or so she would stir it until it set. We, of course, had to be right there to “see” it each time she opened the freezer. This isn't a creamy ice cream that scoops easily because it's not churned but you could adapt it for an ice cream maker. When you're a kid though, you just don't care about anything but the taste!
